It's Halloween. Masks Off!
Happy Halloween everybody! It's my favorite time of the year and I always make sure to celebrate Halloween well. Till last year I had never purchased an actual costume, I usually just find something in my closet and come up with a look. I've been Amy Winehouse, Norma from Sunset Boulevard, a hippie, Frida Kahlo, Wednesday, a geisha and many more. To me coming up with a costume without purchasing extra items is a test to my creativity and a great way to clean out my closet. Only this year something was different. I had absolutely no desire to dress up. Why? Because for the first time ever, out of so many possible characters, masks and costumes I actually want to be.. myself. And trust me, it took me a while to get here.
Who do you normally dress up as? Remember that quote from Mean Girls that Halloween is the one day a year when a girl can dress up extra sexy and not be judged? Are you that girl or do you prefer wearing something funny or scary? I actually believe that the costumes you pick are a good reflection of who you are. You choose the costume because you feel comfortable being that for one night, which means you can somewhat relate to the character you become.
And this is why I decided to not dress up. I can't really relate to anyone or anything right now. I've worn masks and costumes and it feels like I am okay being this girl right here. So this October 31st I will put on what I would wear on a normal day and just be myself. And that costume fits all of the three categories - it is funny, sexy, and somewhat scary, because it is pretty new.
